The
Entrepreneur Woman’s Trade Fair

House -
Trade House
in Morocco
The first Trade House opened
its doors in Madrid in 1996.
Arising from the observation that the
handcraft sector is one of the weakest in the Spanish economy;
a sector mostly formed by women, and generally found in rural
or disadvantaged urban areas.
The greatest difficulty that
these women face is the lack
of marketing and distribution channels for their products,
and in addition to this, the lack
of professional training in business and commerce.
Through the Trade House Project,
Women’s World Banking has provided the solutions to
many problems that affect craftswoman in rural zones: providing
a commercial space at no cost
to them, free training
in marketing, sales techniques, separatism and price policy.
Subsequently and given the
interest that has been generated by this project, in the year
1998 three further Trade Houses were opened in Malaga, Segovia
and Madrid, and another in Gijon in 2002.
In total 1
600 craftswomen have participated in the different
Trade Houses in Spain.
